Answers to Common Questions
General
What is Bold Cymru?
Bold Cymru is a specialist supported living provider based in Neath, South Wales. We provide clinically informed, person-centred support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and complex behavioural needs. We are a family-led, nurse-led service built on decades of specialist clinical experience.
What makes Bold Cymru different from other providers?
We combine nurse-led clinical oversight with a genuine family-centred approach. Our leadership team includes one of the original contributors to the development of Positive Behavioural Management (PBM), and we bring over 100 years of combined experience across learning disability nursing, mental health services, and specialist social care. We are small enough to be personal, experienced enough to manage complexity.
Is Bold Cymru regulated?
Yes. Bold Cymru is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), the independent regulator of social care services in Wales. As a new service, we are awaiting our first inspection and will publish our rating once received.
Where is Bold Cymru based?
Our service is based at Cimla Court, Neath, South Wales. We support adults with complex needs across South Wales and work collaboratively with local authorities and health boards across the region.
Referrals & Assessments
Who can make a referral to Bold Cymru?
We accept referrals from local authorities, health boards, hospitals, social workers, case managers, and multidisciplinary professionals. If you are unsure whether we are the right service, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss the individual’s needs with you.
What happens after I make a referral?
Each referral is reviewed carefully to ensure we can safely and appropriately meet the individual’s needs. We will respond promptly and keep you informed throughout the process. If we feel we are a good match, we will progress to a holistic assessment before any placement is agreed.
How long does the assessment process take?
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the individual’s needs, compatibility with our current service, and transition requirements. We always aim to work as quickly as possible while ensuring that every placement decision is safe, considered, and right for the individual.
What type of referrals are you unable to accept?
Bold Cymru is a specialist service designed for adults with complex needs. We are not able to accept referrals for individuals requiring low-level, hourly support packages. All referrals should specify complex needs to ensure we can provide the right level of clinically informed support.

Families
How will Bold Cymru keep us informed about our loved one?
We maintain regular communication with families through phone calls, meetings, reviews, and collaborative care planning. We believe families should always feel informed, involved, and reassured. Transparency and trust are core values we embed into everything we do.
Can families visit Cimla Court?
Yes. We actively encourage family involvement and welcome visits. Cimla Court is well connected by bus and rail, making it accessible for families who do not drive. We understand that maintaining family relationships is important for the wellbeing of the people we support.
What if our loved one has had a previous placement breakdown?
Many of the individuals we support have experienced placement breakdowns in the past. Our clinical approach, consistent staffing, and focus on creating genuinely therapeutic environments are specifically designed to promote stability and give individuals the best possible chance of a long-term, settled home.
How do you involve families in care planning?
Families are involved throughout the process, from initial assessment through to ongoing reviews. We work collaboratively with families, professionals, and wider support networks to ensure care plans truly reflect the individual’s needs, goals, and preferences.
Staff & Training
What training do Bold Cymru staff receive?
All staff receive training in Positive Behaviour Support, Positive Behavioural Management (PBM), trauma-informed care, safeguarding, autism awareness, medication management, de-escalation, epilepsy awareness, and communication skills. Training is delivered in-house by experienced clinicians, meaning we do not rely on external teams.
Who leads staff training at Bold Cymru?
Training is led by our in-house PBM trainers, including members of our leadership team with direct clinical backgrounds in learning disability nursing, mental health, and behavioural support. Our approach means staff are trained by people who have worked hands-on with the same types of individuals they will be supporting.
How does Bold Cymru ensure consistent staffing?
We believe consistent, familiar staff are essential to building trust and creating therapeutic environments. We prioritise stable staffing arrangements and work hard to minimise unnecessary changes to support teams, particularly for individuals with complex needs or trauma histories.
Are Bold Cymru directors involved in day-to-day care?
Yes. Our directors work alongside staff teams on the ground, providing mentoring, guidance, and hands-on support. We do not manage from a distance. This visibility helps maintain high standards, embed our values, and ensure the people we support are always at the centre of decision making.
Support & Services
What support model does Bold Cymru use?
Our support model is built around Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma-informed care, and active support. Rather than doing things for people, we work with individuals to promote independence, build confidence, and develop daily living skills at their own pace.
What is active support?
Active support means involving individuals in their own daily lives rather than doing everything for them. This could be cooking a meal together, managing a daily routine, or simply making small choices about their day. It is about promoting independence and quality of life at every level, however small.
Can you support individuals with very high or complex needs?
Yes. We specialise in high-complexity cases, including dual diagnosis, behaviours that challenge, forensic histories, and individuals who have experienced long-term inpatient admissions or multiple placement breakdowns. Our clinical background means we are equipped to manage complexity safely and effectively.
How do you reduce restrictive practices?
Reducing restrictive practices has been at the heart of our approach for over 15 years, long before it became sector-wide policy. Through PBS planning, functional assessment, the ABC model, trauma-informed care, and in-house PBM training, we focus on understanding and preventing behaviours rather than reacting to them. Our goal is always to reduce restrictions over time, not maintain them.
